Service Families Heroes Club
Mrs Gower - Service Link Worker
At Alverstoke Junior School, we are proud of our link with the Armed Forces. Our Service families are very important to us and we recognise the struggle our little heroes go through when a family member is away from home.
Mrs Gower, our Service Family Link Worker is always on hand to offer advice and comfort to the children, having served in the Royal Navy and being a naval wife she understands the struggles military life can throw at you.
We as a school are very proud of the support we provide. The deployment pack each family receive at the beginning of a deployment have an assortment of books and activities to help the family through their time of separation.
Each year group have an opportunity to email deployed parents and share their work, which supports both the child and the parent. The work is then saved in a scrapbook for the family to celebrate and treasure when the parent returns.
We offer a heroes afterschool club, where children enjoy a number of activities such as reading, board games, quizzes, art, and craft. This is also an opportunity for your child to chat with other service children in similar situations.
The many adventures of the AJS Meerkat also keeps the children entertained. These furry friends offer support to our children and they look forward to the photographs of their deployment adventures.
We offer extra events throughout the year including: bacon butties; coffee morning; a Christmas party and a summer picnic. In the past, we have also been lucky to go on many school trips such as visiting Winchester University the Naval Dockyard.
If you are a service family, please contact Mrs Gower by emailing the school office so that your family can get involved.
